NFT investor loses 2.5 ETH in hack, wins it back the next day in free MetaWin game entry

The NFT space is fast-paced – and one Web3 user experienced this first-hand when he was hacked for 2.5ETH of NFTs, then won a rare NFT the next day and sold it. Remarkably, he got most of his money back – thanks to a free-to-enter competition from innovative tech company MetaWin.

It all began when derhelle posted to Twitter on August 20, saying his RAYC #3605 had been stolen by scammers. He tagged RareApepes and OpenSea as part of his bid for the thief to return the art to his wallet, but it was all in vain.

However, his luck changed when he decided to take part in a Free To Enter competition run by MetaWin, which had 237 entries. Amazingly, his bad luck turned around as he was the lucky winner of Genuine Undead #6873. What’s more, this piece features the rare ‘Hologram’ trait, which only raised its value.

After becoming one of 60 Blue-Chip NFT prize winners over the weekend with MetaWin, derhelle was quick to seize his opportunity and hosted a bidding war for the piece. He engaged in discussions with a fellow Genuine Undead holder VerySeriousInvestor, and managed to secure a final selling price of 2.169ETH.

This means the lucky derhelle was able to turn his fortunes around after his hack by becoming a lucky Metawinner and turning his prize into crypto – recouping most of the money he lost.

Richard Skelhorn, CEO of MetaWin, said:

‘There are so many scams going around lately, it’s nice to finally see someone MetaWinning their money back! We recently launched our Competitions feature, and after just a few weeks we’ve awarded valuable Blue-Chip NFTs to 100s of lucky winners.’

Anyone can become a MetaWin member and be in for the chance to win a high-value NFT.
