Ethereum developers are preparing to roll out a major network upgrade, codenamed Fusaka, with an ambitious target date set for November.
The upgrade aims to boost scalability and efficiency, continuing the momentum from this year’s Pectra hard fork.
While the Fusaka release remains tentative, testing is moving quickly. A new devnet is expected this week featuring 11 proposed improvements, including EIP-7825, which is designed to strengthen security and enhance network scalability. Some features, such as EIP-7907 and the debated EVM Object Format, have been dropped to simplify the rollout.
Two public testnets are planned for September and October, keeping developers on a tight schedule ahead of Devconnect in Buenos Aires, which begins on November 17. Internal discussions show some concern about whether the timeline is realistic, but the push to ship remains strong.
Attention is already turning to the next phase. The Glamsterdam upgrade, expected in 2026, will see its proposed features confirmed on August 1. One potential change includes cutting Ethereum’s block time in half, which developers say could dramatically improve DeFi performance. Meanwhile, validator votes are trending toward raising the gas limit to 45 million, with community support for easing transaction congestion.
