Free money, what is not to love? The Ethereum Merge has spawned forks, the main one being Ethereum POW, which is basically the old pre-merge Ethereum. If the Ethereum POS was not to work out the POW fork might become the dominant one. But that has not happened.
The “Merge” went well and there have yet to be any technical glitches of the new Ethereum POS version. The proof-of-stake version is THE Ethereum but there are at least two forks I know of:
1) Ethereum POW, the main fork and chain
2) EthereumFair, another fork on another alternative chain
If you had Ethereum at the fork block, you will have these forked Ethereum on those chains. While Ethereum POS will be hugely dominant, the new forks have a life of their own and the new pretender tokens have residual value.
How do you get the coins? You add these chains to your wallet, for example Metamask, and bingo – there will be your shiny new tokens in your wallet on the new chain.
For ETH POW put in:
Network Name: ETHW-mainnet
New RPC URL:
Chain ID: 10001
Currency Symbol: ETHW
Block Explorer URL (Optional):
For EthereumFair put in:
Network Name : EthereumFair
New RPC URL:
Chain ID: 513100
Currency Symbol: ETF
ETF Explorer (optional):
As I write, Ethereum POW is $6.88 and EthereumFair $4.44, so right now you can sell them for $11 for every Ethereum you have. If you sold them now that would be a bit of free money.
However, you need to have an account with an exchange that handles them and these are:
Ethereum POW: FTX, Gate.io, Houbi, Kraken, Bittrex, Bitfinex, OKX and others.
EthereumFair: Huobi, Poloniex, Bitcoke
What to do? Experience says grab the tokens and dump them right away, but for me I’m going to hodl because you never know what might happen to the old POW Ethereum. $11 out of $1,300 isn’t exactly a jackpot but there is optionality, which means ether could moon on some market whim, so it’s worth holding on for that slim chance.
Meanwhile I will keep my eyes out for other forks. You never know, there may be/could be more worth winkling out.
These chains will be super cheap to use if anyone decides to port their apps to them and this just might slingshot a fork to perhaps 10% of ETH POS price. Now that is worth hoping for, however low the odds.
