Ethereum News Weekly Shuts Down Amidst Lack of Support from Ethereum Foundation

This decision follows a discussion earlier this year with leaders from the Ethereum Foundation (EF), who conveyed that they deemed the continuation of WiE to hold little value. In 2024, WiE’s financial backing from the EF was minimal and largely symbolic; its complete withdrawal highlighted the Foundation’s stance and signaled that the newsletter’s operations would cease immediately.

The halt of support from the EF underscores growing challenges in the crypto media landscape. Over the years, WiE managed to carve out a significant niche, influencing numerous developers in their careers in Solidity and blockchain security, with many attributing their Ethereum investments to the insights gleaned from the newsletter. While once a major information source within the ecosystem, WiE struggled to establish a viable business model, primarily due to difficulties in selling advertising and sponsorship opportunities as marketing teams often overlooked developer-centric content.
