The Ethereum Merge will be completed over the next few weeks, with the Ethereum Foundation confirming that the upgrade will be coming earlier than expected. The Merge will happen a few days after the Bellatrix upgrade.
Ethereum Foundation confirms Merge date
The announcement shared by the Ethereum Foundation has confirmed that the Merge will happen sooner than earlier announced. The organization said that the ETH proof-of-stake would finally become a reality after years of work by the developers.
All the public testnets for the Merge have been completed, and the Merge date has already been secured. The newly published blog post by the Ethereum Foundation said that the migration of the ETH mainnet to proof-of-stake would happen between September 10 and September 20.
The Merge will happen after the Bellatrix upgrade, which will set the Merge in motion. The Merge will also be activated on the Ethereum Beacon Chain. The Ethereum Foundation also added that the Merge activation was set for epoch 144896 on the Ethereum Beacon Chain. This is expected to happen at 11:34:47 AM UTC on September 6.

After this, Paris will be activated after the Terminal Total Difficulty (TTD) reached 58,750,000,000,000,000,000,000. The team further added that the exact date for the Merge would be determined by the Proof-of-Work (PoW) hash rate. Therefore, as the hash rate on the network increases, the earlier the TTD will be released.
On the other hand, the TTD could be delayed if the hash rate exits the network. An earlier announcement by Ethereum core developers had said that the Merge was likely to happen between September 15 and 16.
Ethereum bug bounties hit $1M ahead of Merge
Ethereum developers have been keen to ensure no surprises during and after the Merge. Critical bugs on the mainnet update for ETH clients, Go ETH, and Nethermind, were recently detected. However, the bugs were patched a day after being detected.
The Ethereum Foundation recently announced it would raise the bug bounty payouts on the network ahead of the Merge. The blog post published on Wednesday by the Ethereum Foundation said that all bounties related to the Merge would be quadrupled for white hats looking for vulnerabilities on the network.
The foundation also said that white hats that detect critical bugs that likely cause a significant impact on the network would receive a bounty of up to $1 million.
