Ethereum Developers Launch Web3SOC to Standardize Security and Compliance in DeFi

A group of leading Ethereum-based DeFi developers and security experts have launched Web3SOC, a new security and compliance framework designed to strengthen institutional confidence in decentralized finance.

The initiative was announced Friday and includes contributions from top teams such as Uniswap Labs, Morpho, Maple Finance, Kiln, and Steakhouse Financial, along with cybersecurity firms Cantina and Secureum.

Framework for DeFi Governance and Institutional Standards

Web3SOC — short for “Web3 System and Organizational Controls” — offers a structured classification framework for Web3 applications, aimed at improving transparency, security, and collaborative governance across the ecosystem. The goal is to provide financial institutions and DeFi projects with a shared methodology to assess security practices and ensure operational compliance.

According to the announcement, Web3SOC is intended to function as a standardized reference for best practices in smart contract development, protocol risk mitigation, and governance processes. Its backers believe this framework could become a foundational layer for evaluating the readiness and reliability of decentralized applications, especially as traditional finance increasingly explores blockchain integration.

Institutional Input Strengthens Web3SOC’s Scope

The framework also benefited from contributions by institutional investors and stakeholders, reflecting the growing demand for security transparency in the DeFi space. With high-profile exploits and governance issues continuing to pose risks to the sector, Web3SOC aims to fill a critical gap in how decentralized applications are assessed, deployed, and trusted by both users and institutions.

The launch of Web3SOC signals a broader push toward professionalizing DeFi infrastructure, making it more accessible and trustworthy for larger capital allocators and regulators alike.
