- Danny Ryan is one of two major candidates being pushed to lead the Ethereum Foundation.
- The Ethereum Foundation is facing backlash over its current leadership, among other issues.
The Ethereum community has expressed its support for Danny Ryan to head the Ethereum Foundation (EF).
Ryan garnered a 99% yes vote from community members in an informal on-chain poll. The voting follows calls for the Foundation’s leadership changes from within the Ethereum community.
99% of the 300 ETH Wallets Pledge Support for Danny Ryan
According to reports, a poll conducted at votedannyryan.com enabled participation through a simple approval voting system. The voting process designed as gas-free permitted individuals to vote yes or no for Ryan via their ETH wallets.
A total of 300 wallets, holding over 50,000 ETH worth about $160 million, participated in the voting. So far, 296 wallets, about 99% of the 300 wallets, have signed their votes in favor of Ryan. It is important to note that this vote doesn’t yield an official outcome. Ryan, a former Ethereum researcher who left the Foundation last year, is the sole candidate in the poll.
Developer Fabrice Cheng said he launched the “votedannyryan” campaign and website “to offer a peaceful, objective way” for the larger Ethereum community. The goal is to allow ETH holders, stakers, and DeFi participants to express their views.
“Ethereum’s greatest strength has always been its social layer, and ensuring that the community has a voice is vital for its future,” says Cheng. He is also advocating that the EF adopt a decentralized community voting system for every decision.
Lately, Ethereum community members have voiced concerns about leadership inefficiencies at the EF. In a recent study, CNF reported that some community members expressed discontent with the current executive director, Aya Miyaguchi. These individuals have called for the resignation of the director.
Jerome de Tychey, the president of Ethereum France, has emerged as another potential candidate for EF leadership. Ethereum co-founder Joseph Lubin suggested replacing Miyaguchi with Danny Ryan and ETH France president Jerome de Tychey as co-leaders.
Lubin said their leadership would bring a massive injection of energy and technical focus to the Foundation.
Why Danny Ryan May Emerge EF Leader
The community’s push for Ryan is quite palpable. Members claim Ryan’s technical expertise aligns with Ethereum’s long-term vision. During his stay at the Foundation, Danny Ryan focused on areas like proof of stake and sharding. He also contributed to Ethereum’s transition from proof-of-work to proof-of-stake, known as The Merge.
However, it is important to note that Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin holds the position to determine thenext EF leader. Cardano Founder Charles Hosinson is amongst other crypto stakeholders that have criticized Vitalik’s EF unilateral leadership.
Meanwhile, Ryan has also voiced his interest in coming back to the Ethereum Foundation. In an X post, Ryan said he initiated conversations with Vitalik and others at EF about his potential involvement. Still, it is unclear whether either side will formally appoint Ryan as the next EF leader.
