Binance founder Changpeng Zhao has revealed a personal donation of $10 million worth of BNB to support Vitalik Buterin’s open-source biotech initiatives.
In a social media post, CZ said the contribution was made several months ago and aligns with his broader philanthropic goals.
Zhao emphasized the importance of backing mission-driven work, adding that believing in a cause is key to attracting the right talent. He also noted that he’s recently made additional private donations to other charities, with more details to be shared soon.
Buterin’s biotech efforts have gained increasing attention for their unconventional approach. Rather than funneling funding into traditional pharmaceutical routes, these projects promote open collaboration and transparency—focusing on long-term human health, aging research, and pandemic prevention through universal virus detection.
The donation from Zhao highlights a growing trend of crypto wealth being directed toward scientific innovation and social impact. With leaders like Buterin and CZ putting resources behind experimental research and nonprofit-driven models, the boundaries between crypto, philanthropy, and science are beginning to blur in meaningful ways.
