The Buenos Aires Ministry of Education has partnered with the ETH Kipu Foundation to incorporate Ethereum and blockchain technologies into its high school curriculum. According to an announcement from ETH Kipu, this initiative will prepare students for the tech-driven economy.
This program highlights the growing interest in blockchain technology and cryptocurrency in Argentina. Argentines were already looking to digital assets as protection from high inflation. Now, government agencies have also initiated policies to support the emerging industry.
Ethereum education for students and teachers
According to ETH Kipu, the program will start on August 27 and will introduce blockchain to high school students in their classrooms. Students will also participate in internships with blockchain projects for practical, hands-on learning.
As part of the program, 500 students aged 18 and above will learn programming with Solidity, the language of Ethereum smart contracts. The collaborating parties hope it will enable them to acquire the skills to build decentralized applications that can be integrated into the local economy.
ETH Kipu Foundation co-founder Romina Sejas described the program as a landmark achievement while highlighting the benefits of the Ethereum network as a protocol for human coordination.
She said:
“I have been working in the ecosystem for six years. Months planning this in particular. Looking for the right way to impact, to grow, to outflank. Thanks to all those who supported me. And to those who criticized, because that is also what we feed on to correct.”
The program will also train 30 teachers in blockchain technology through a hybrid program. The training program is expected to help educators gain a better grasp of subjects the subjects they will teach students.
ETH Kipu Foundation is a non-profit organization funded by the Ethereum Foundation that supports the Ethereum ecosystem in Latin America. The organization has conducted numerous developer programs.
Argentina solidifies position as crypto hub in Latin America
This program highlights the collaborative work to establish Argentina as a crypto hub for Latin America. The country ranks fourth globally in cryptocurrency ownership and boasts a flourishing crypto ecosystem, with many residents earning in digital assets.
Community-led initiatives like ETH Kipu and the Crisciemento movement have contributed to the growth of the crypto ecosystem. The election of a pro-crypto president in November 2023 also provides the essential regulatory framework needed for crypto startups in the country.
Since Javier Millei’s election, Argentina has initiated pro-crypto policies, such as the Virtual Assets Service Providers Register and a resolution allowing companies to receive cryptocurrency. The country is also considering regulating the crypto industry and providing tax exemptions for declaring up to $100,000 in digital assets.
Meanwhile, Ethereum-focused education is not the only thing happening in Argentina. NGO Bitcoin Argentina recently collaborated with crypto exchange BingX to provide Web3 educational courses covering various crypto subjects, including Bitcoin and stablecoins.
