Scott Free Productions, the production company behind “House of Gucci” and “Blade Runner 2049,” has attached its name to an adaptation of The Defiant founder Camila Russo’s book “The Infinite Machine” about the founding of the Ethereum network.
According to Deadline, Shyam Madiraju is attached to write and direct, and director Ridley Scott will produce alongside Scott Free colleagues Tom Moran and Vera Meyer.
“I can’t imagine a better team to turn the riveting story about the people behind the most revolutionary technology since the internet into a feature film that will capture the hearts of our generation,” said Russo.
“The Infinite Machine,” published in the summer of 2020, was the first of three books by crypto journalists chronicling the journey of Ethereum from the brain of teenage Vitalik Buterin to the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization.
Matthew Leising’s 2020 “Out of the Ether” covered similar territory while explaining a massive hack of a decentralized venture capital fund on Ethereum that threatened to take down the network in its early days. Laura Shin’s “The Cryptopians,” published this year, is the most recent exploration of the motivations and actions of Ethereum’s founders.
The film version of the movie, assuming it makes it to screen, is in good hands.
Scott Free has become a major player in Hollywood since its 1995 founding, producing Ridley Scott-directed films such as “Alien: Covenant” and “The Martian” as well as the recently released “Death on the Nile” and television series such as “The Good Fight.” Scott himself has been nominated for four Oscars—three as a director and one as a producer.
