Why Can’t States Like California Count Votes As Quickly As Florida?

Our election system is broken in a number of states, with the results of several critical contests in doubt a week after Election Day because votes haven’t been tabulated.

This segment of What’s Ahead contrasts this disgraceful situation with that in Florida, the third most populous state in the country, where ballots—both in-place and mail-in—were counted hours after the polls closed.

Another issue that needs to be addressed is early voting, which in some places begins as early as September. This makes a mockery of the campaign process and is also why debates are becoming an endangered species.
