What To Stream This Weekend On Netflix, HBO, Disney+, Amazon Prime And More

It’s the weekend and that means that at least some lucky folks get to take a break from the 9-to-5 grind and relax. It’s also the middle of winter, which is a perfect time to chill out with a good movie or a binge-worthy show.

This isn’t the busiest weekend for new movies and shows, but I have some suggestions along with a full list of new content coming to Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, HBO and more below.

Wakanda Forever (Disney+)

As you can see in the image above, Wakanda Forever is finally streaming. The Black Panther sequel dropped on Disney+ this week, and if you haven’t gotten around to seeing it now you have no excuses. I actually . . . still haven’t seen this movie somehow. I think when I saw the run-time (2 hours and 41 minutes) I just balked at going to it in theaters. I’d seen The Batman recently and it was too long. I knew I’d be going to Avatar: The Way Of Water soon and it was way too long. I figured, may as well save this one for home when I can pause and take breaks. Maybe I just have Marvel/superhero fatigue . . . .

Dear Edward (Apple TV+)

This looks . . . extremely emotional. The new Apple TV+ series is based on the novel by Ann Napolitano which was inspired by the true story of 9-year-old Dutch boy Ruben Van Assouw who was the sole survivor of a plane crash in 2010. The fictional series deals with the grief and drama of the family members who lost love ones in a similar crash, in which only the young boy Edward (Colin O’Brien) survives. You might recognize Connie Britton from The White Lotus. The series also stars Taylor Schilling.

Murder In Big Horn (Showtime)

Recently, I wrote about my favorite Jeremy Renner movies (after his terrible accident) and one was Wind River, which dealt with missing Native American women. Murder In Big Horn is a documentary that deals with the very real, very tragic issue of young women going missing on the reservation. It takes place in Big Horn County, Montana and the Crow Reservation, just east of Billings. (I was born and raised in Bozeman, MT and now live near the Navajo Reservation in Arizona and find this kind of stuff fascinating and horrifying and well worth watching and learning more about).

The Legend Of Vox Machina Season 2 (Amazon Prime Video)

On a lighter note, The Legend Of Vox Machina’s excellent second season continues to delight and amaze with its third trio of episodes releasing this Friday. This is, without a doubt, one of the best fantasy shows on TV period. I don’t just mean best animated, but best fantasy TV show out there, and certainly leagues better than Amazon’s other big offerings, The Rings Of Power and The Wheel Of Time, or Disney’s Willow sequel series. Vox Machina is just the perfect blend of drama, comedy, character-driven stories, fantasy and adventure and, well, dick jokes. It’s great. Trust me.

The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy (Netflix)

Hey, it’s not new and you’ve probably already seen it but The Lord Of The Rings has finally landed on Netflix in its entirety. All three of Peter Jackson’s incredible films are available to stream right now and it’s never a bad time to get lost in Middle-earth. Well, unless you’re watching The Rings Of Power.

Here’s everything coming to all these various streamers—which are increasingly difficult to keep track of—this weekend.
