Today’s Wordle #219 Answer: Monday, January 24th Solution

Well, the weekend is over and it’s back to the daily grind. Such is life. At least we have fun word puzzle games to distract us!

Welcome to another Wordle solution post, my fellow Wordlers!

The free-to-play, ad-free, micro-transaction-free word puzzle game Wordle is the viral sensation of the moment, and a welcome change of pace from most mobile games out there.

The game, created by Josh Wardle as a pandemic present for his word-puzzle aficionado wife, isn’t available on the App Store or Google Play. If you want to give it a spin, head over to the official website and don’t get suckered in by clones and copycats.

Monday’s Wordle #219 Answer

Before we get to the solution for Wordle #219, here’s a hint:

Grassy.

And here’s the answer—which took me longer than any Wordle so far!

Wow, this one was tough! This was down to the wire for me. I seriously thought I might not get it, and I very nearly didn’t. Thankfully I managed to get it on the sixth—and final—guess.

When I guessed ‘DREAM’ I wasn’t too worried. Cool, I thought, I just eliminated a lot of common letters. I’ll do another word—SHIRT—with another vowel and some more common consonants. When both DREAM and SHIRT turned up zero correct letters, I started to worry. That left just ‘O’ and ‘U’ and I only revealed ‘O’ (and just one ‘O’) with GLOOM.

I did something I rarely do next, using ‘R’ despite knowing it wasn’t a correct letter. But ‘FLOUR’ revealed that there was no ‘U’ in this word—leaving me with just one ‘O’ and an ‘L’ in the wrong spot.

I used ‘R’ a second time because I was out of ideas and came up with ‘DROLL’ which, luckily as it happens, gave me ‘OLL’ in the right spots. From here I went through the remaining letters, pretty damn stumped by what could possible precede this with no ‘H’ or ‘S’ or ‘R’ left—and then thought of ‘KNOLL.’

I still wasn’t sure if it was right when I hit the ‘Enter’ button and heaved a sigh of relief when it came back all green. I don’t know if I just got unlucky, but for me this is the hardest word I’ve had to puzzle out since I started writing these guides and playing Wordle. Was this one tricky for you, too?
