There Are Now 10 Korean Music Videos With At Least One Billion Views On YouTube

Last week, Blackpink’s music video that accompanies their single “As If It’s Your Last” reached one billion views on YouTube. There are now hundreds of treatments that have made it to that important milestone, but that’s out of millions of uploads, so it remains a relatively uncommon occurrence, even among the biggest names in the music industry.

With “As If It’s Your Last” now squarely in the billion-views club, there are officially 10 music videos from South Korean musicians that have hit that count.

Leading the way in a very, very distant first place among all music videos by South Korean musical stars is Pinkfong’s “Baby Shark,” which has pushed past eight billion plays on the site. The clip is now among the most successful uploads of all time, and it could rank among the biggest ever for a long, long time to come.

In second place among all music videos by South Korean musicians is Psy’s “Gangnam Style,” which is far away from No. 1, but also from the No. 3 clip. That pioneering smash and viral video just recently hit four billion plays on the platform.

No other track by a South Korean solo musician or band has reached two billion plays, though eventually one will. At this point, it’s only a matter of time.

Rounding out the top five on the list of the 10 music videos by South Korean stars that have racked up at least one billion plays on YouTube are Blackpink’s “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du,” Psy’s “Gentleman” and Blackpink’s “Kill This Love,” which sit at Nos. 3, 4 and 5, respectively.

Looking at the 10 most-viewed visuals, Psy claims two of the most popular, BTS has placed a trio of videos inside the billion-play club, while Blackpink runs the show, with four placements inside the top 10. Only Pinkfong, which is something of a mix between a traditional group and a brand, owns just one spot…though it’s the top one.

These are the 10 Korean-language music videos that have racked up at least one billion views on YouTube.
