The Fantastic New Attacking Trident FC Barcelona Want For Next Season

FC Barcelona already have a fantastic new attacking trident in mind for next season.

Ever since the days of the ‘MSN’, which contained Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar and was arguably the best trio ever seen in world football while firing the club to the treble and its last Champions League crown, the Blaugrana have tried and failed to replicate the South Americans’ success in a 4-3-3.

The likes of Antoine Griezmann and Philippe Coutinho failed to compliment Messi and Suarez when Neymar left for Paris Saint Germain in 2017, and with all five of these players now moved on to different pastures, the Catalans need to look to the future under Xavi Hernandez.

According to Mundo Deportivo on Friday, then, Xavi and his staff already have a new attacking trident in mind, but only one of its three components is currently on the books at Camp Nou.

Now fit again and looking to kick on in 2022/2023, Ansu Fati can prove to be one of the world’s best left wingers if he can stay off the operating table and even put in a shift at center forward.

For that position, however, with Erling Haaland having joined Manchester City, Barca are trying to sign Bayern Munich veteran Robert Lewandowski who is a more natural ‘9’ and one of the best of the modern era for that matter.

The Pole has already told the Bavarians that he will not renew his contract which expires in 2023, and president Joan Laporta now needs to hash out a discounted deal to land him for something in the region between €30-60mn ($31.7-63.42mn)

Then on the right wing, if Ousmane Dembele doesn’t extend his own terms past June 30 this year, would be Leeds United’s Raphinha.

Though the Brazil international is said to currently have a £75mn ($93mn) release clause in his contract which is too high for a debt-ridden Barca at this moment in time, the Yorkshire club being relegated on Sunday while currently occupying the first place in the drop zone will reportedly see this amount reduced to a more affordable £25mn ($31.2mn).

A busy summer awaits to make this happen, with the futures of the likes of Luuk de Jong, Memphis Depay and Martin Braithwaite all likely to resume outside of Catalonia as playing time is reduced for figures such as Ferran Torres.
