Looking at the list of the top 10 bestselling songs in South Korea in 2021, it’s clear that several artists dominated the sales-only chart. According to Gaon, four different stars claim several spots inside the highest tier on the tally, scoring more than a single bestseller in the nation.
Lim Young-woong rules the ranking of the bestselling songs in several fashions. The musician’s single “My Starry Love” ends 2021 as the top seller, and he didn’t stop there. The superstar claims three spots inside just the top 10, as his other smashes “Love Always Runs Away” and “Trust in Me” land at Nos. 2 and 7, respectively. He is the only name to appear inside the loftiest space with more than two tracks.
Spots Nos. 3 and 4 are owned by Daniel Kang, as the solo star and former Wanna One musician’s hits “Antidote” and “Paranoia” both appear inside the upper half of the top 10. It’s unusual for any one act to fill that many spaces so close to the peak, but to see a pair of artists manage the feat in the same year is truly unexpected.
BTS’s 2021 global smash single “Butter” appears at No. 5, while that hit’s B-side “Permission to Dance” ends the year as the ninth-bestselling cut in South Korea. Both are featured on the Butter single album, the bestselling title of the year in South Korea.
Female powerhouse singer IU also snags a pair of spots inside the top 10 on the annual list of the bestselling songs in South Korea, as her tunes “Celebrity” and “Lilac” settle in at Nos. 6 and 10, respectively.
The last space not yet filled is owned by Lim Young-woong’s “Trust in Me,” one of the three tunes the singer places inside the top 10 on the connected-but-separate ranking of the most-consumed songs in the nation last year.
