Submissions Are Now Open For The Definitive Ranking Of The World’s Best Venture Capitalists

The Midas List, Forbes’ data-driven ranking of the top 100 private tech investors in the world, is back for a 22nd year. Submissions are open through February 14.

Tech IPOs on ice. Unicorn valuations under pressure. The venture capital environment in 2023 is one of uncertainty — and fast-changing track records. But for the industry’s leaders, it’s an opportunity. And on the 22nd annual Midas List, they’ll have the chance to prove it.

Submissions for the 2023 Midas List, the definitive ranking of the world’s top private tech investors, are now open through February 14. Produced in partnership with TrueBridge Capital Partners, the Midas List is a data-driven list that evaluates hundreds of investors across dozens of top firms. Forbes and TrueBridge rank the top 100 VCs worldwide not by social media buzz or popularity, but by their portfolio results: Eligible portfolio companies must have gone public or been acquired for at least $200 million over the past five years, or have at least doubled their private valuation since initial investment to $400 million or more over the same period. Liquid exits count for more than unrealized returns, and the Midas model rewards investors who have made bigger, bolder bets.

With decades of experience and industry data, Midas and TrueBridge can ensure that data is input correctly and confidentially; portfolio performance shared in the Midas process is not published or shared.

Investors who submit, or firms that submit on investors’ behalf, will be automatically entered into consideration for the second annual Midas Seed List if eligible. Launched first in 2022, Midas Seed additionally ranks the top 25 seed-stage investors globally, with lower deal thresholds to match. No additional information or second application is required.

Note: Investors that submitted for the Midas List Europe, published each December, are encouraged to re-submit for Midas unless their portfolio activity remains unchanged.

Forbes and TrueBridge will also publish another edition of the Brink List, the Midas List’s up-and-comers list that recognizes investors with the momentum, position and reputation to break onto Midas in the future. The Brink List is selected by a mix of qualitative and quantitative data by a rotating group of industry leaders kept confidential until publication. Submissions or inquiries about Brink List can be directed to list editor Alex Konrad.

Last year’s Midas List saw a new number one in crypto specialist Chris Dixon of a16z crypto, a key investor behind companies like Coinbase, Dapper Labs and Uniswap; one of 12 list members in 2022 to back Coinbase, Dixon and his co-investors will face pressure to maintain their positions in 2023 during an ongoing “crypto winter.” International performance will be another trend to track: a record 12 investors from Europe, Israel and the Middle East made it onto the Midas List in 2022.

Nearly one in four investors on the 2022 list was a new face, including 15 who had never appeared on Midas before. Will more change come to the 2023 ranks? Submit here to be a part of it.
