Starbucks Loyalty Program: Odyssey’s ‘Journeys’ 

Starbucks, the largest coffee chain in the world, is spreading its hands towards Web3 and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) with the launch of the beta version of Starbucks Odyssey. This new loyalty program will be available to a selected audience, waitlist members containing customers and Starbucks partners (employees) in the U.S.

“Selected participants will be able to engage in Starbucks Odyssey ‘Journeys’ which are a series of entertaining, interactive activities to earn collectible ‘Journey Stamps’ (NFTs) and Odyssey Points that will unlock access to exciting new benefits and experiences,” the company said in a statement.

The US coffee chain stated that the program is a key expansion of Starbucks Rewards powered by Web3 technology that allows customers to access new interesting benefits and involvement of members.

“Once logged in, members can participate in ‘Journeys,’ which include a series of interactive activities to complete. The activities will range from taking a virtual tour of Starbucks coffee farm Hacienda Alsacia in Costa Rica, to trivia about Starbucks heritage, to playing interactive games,” the US business said. “Once a Journey is complete, members will be awarded with a collectable ‘Journey Stamp’ (a Polygon-based NFT) and bonus Points towards their overall Point total.”

Initially, the chain sent the invitation to the small group of waitlist members and employees in December and began it in January 2023. And the monthly invitation will be sent to the rest of the members of the waitlist. 

The executive vice president and chief marketing officer at Starbucks, Brady Brewer, stated that the entertaining and joyful initiative by the US coffeehouse is an effort to harness a growing technology and make it easily accessible to a wide range of people. 

 Brewer said, “Starbucks Rewards members are some of our most loyal and engaged customers, and Starbucks Odyssey is our next big innovation in loyalty to recognize, surprise and delight them. We are leveraging Web3 technology to reward and connect with our members in new ways, such as offering collectibles, ownable digital stamps, a new digital community, and opening access to new benefits and immersive coffee experiences – both physically and digitally.

At the beginning of 2023, members can buy unique signature ‘Limited-Edition Stamps’ (NFTs) via the Starbucks Odyssey market.
