GOP congressional candidates campaigned hard against Uncle Sam’s massive, wasteful spending. Well, as this episode of What’s Ahead sadly points out, it’s easier to preach against overeating than to actually diet. Like bears in front of a jar of honey, Republicans find the lure of spending irresistible.
Before the elections, they helped pass two big boondoggle spending bills that Biden had been pushing. Then shortly after the midterms they voted down a proposal to get rid of earmarks, a device that facilitates pork-barrel spending.
Republicans have shown no appetite at all to adhere to long-ignored laws concerning the now-broken-down appropriations process.
No wonder Americans so disdain both parties.
