Real Madrid Legend Marco Asensio Ready To Listen To FC Barcelona Offer

Real Madrid legend Marco Asensio is reportedly ready to listen to a potential offer from FC Barcelona and switch allegiances between Spain’s two biggest rivals.

The three-time Champions League winner is out of contract in the summer, and is said to be fed up with his lot at the Bernabeu where he continues to struggle for minutes and protagonism under head coach Carlo Ancelotti.

Several outfits such as AC Milan and Arsenal have registered interest in the 27-year-old, who according to SPORT is willing to listen to what Los Blancos’ bitter rivals have to offer him.

The Blaugrana are yet to come forward and table a proposal for Asensio, but the Catalan club is said to already know about the player’s disposition to do the unthinkable and cross one of club football’s greatest divides.

Barca apparently consider Asensio a “great market opportunity” but will not interfere in his future in Madrid.

It is only if Asensio himself decides to call time on his eight-year tenure in the Spanish capital, and part ways with the Merengues, that president Joan Laporta and sporting director Mateu Alemany will take a step forward in a potential coup for the attacker.

There is no denying that his lack of a price tag and quality would interest the pair, however. Barca have been warned that they must shave €200 million ($212.5 million) from their wage bill ahead of 2023/2024 by La Liga president Javier Tebas, who went on the record again last week saying that the club cannot make signings in the summer as is.

Barca will likely have to offload a number of players to balance the books, with widemen such as Ferran Torres, Ansu Fati and Raphinha candidates for the chopping block.

This would free up space for Asensio, but it seems difficult to believe that Laporta will make overtures for him without the blessing of his Real Madrid counterpart Florentino Perez with whom he continues to back the creation of the European Super League.

Their support for the breakaway competition, plus a refusal to sign the CVC deal, puts them in cahoots and at loggerheads with Tebas who Laporta feels is waging a personal campaign against him and his club.
