Rakuten Group Announces Collaboration with Uber Eats Japan

Rakuten Group, a leading Japanese internet company, announced on Monday a collaboration to integrate Uber Eats with Rakuten Pay’s online payment service through the Rakuten ID System.

According to the press release, by the end of April, all Uber Eats users will be able to pay with Rakuten Pay for food and groceries. Customers will be able to choose RakutenPay online payment service as their payment option when placing orders through Uber Eats, enabling easy and intuitive payment with the credit card information associated with the user’s Rakuten ID.

Customers can also earn Rakuten Points when ordering through Uber Eats, which can be used to pay for orders.

Both existing and new Uber Eats users will be able to log into Uber Eats using their Rakuten ID, as well as create an Uber Eats account through a simplified registration process using their Rakuten ID. In addition, both companies will launch an introductory Rakuten Pay campaign on Uber Eats starting on April 27 in celebration of this collaboration.

Furthermore, both companies will run special sales events on Rakuten Ichiba, Rakuten’s online marketplace, and integrate their services for payments and IDs on Uber, Uber Japan’s mobility service. “Users can expect more seamless and convenient collaborative services going forward,” Rakuten Group noted.

Rakuten’s NFT Sphere

In February, Rakuten officially entered into the growing non-fungible token (NFT) space through the launch of Rakuten NFT. The newly launched platform supports buying and selling of the emerging asset class. Rakuten mentioned that the NFT marketplace has many innovative features, including an efficient platform that enables IP holders to build their own websites for issuing and selling NFTs.

According to the company, customers will be able to earn and spend Rakuten Points after purchasing through the use of their Rakuten ID. In 2021, amid the growing adoption of NFTs around the world, Rakuten announced its plan to roll out its own NFT marketplace.
