PS Plus Rumors, Leaks And Predictions: September Free Games 2022

If we had an hourglass for August, its sand would have mostly fallen to the bottom by now. This month’s time is almost up, and September is hurtling towards us.

Every month, Sony reveals the next month’s upcoming free PlayStation Plus Essential games on the final Wednesday of the month. That means that we won’t know what’s coming to PS Plus in September until August 31st, a week from now.

That also means that September’s first batch of PS Plus games will release on Tuesday, September 6th, the first Tuesday of the month.

In other words, we have time to speculate, scour the internet for leaks and rumors, and bide our time.

August’s two batches of PS Plus games have already come out. Both the PS Plus Essential titles (here) and PS Plus Extra/Premium titles (here) were pretty great, and you’ll want to be sure to claim those before September 6th. Seriously, don’t miss out.

Will September’s lineup be as generous? That remains to be seen.

PlayStation Plus September 2022 Leaks And Rumors

As of this time, there are no PS Plus leaks for September, but if there are I’ll update this post with those details. Leaks have been pretty regular lately, so it’s likely that in the days before the 31st something will come out.

With no legitimate leaks or rumors to speak of, let’s move right on to predictions and wishes.

PlayStation Plus September 2022 Predictions & Wishlist

One of the biggest video game releases of September is the remake of Naughty Dog’s The Last Of Us, now known as The Last Of Us Part 1. The remake will have much better graphics and a much worse looking Joel.

Okay, actually Joel looks a lot better in the new trailer:

Now, given that this game is coming out on September 2nd, I’m almost tempted to say a PS Plus release of The Last Of Us Part II would make sense. But the timing is all wrong. The free game won’t drop until the 6th, days after this one releases. Honestly, an August release of the sequel would have made more sense to drive hype for the remake of the original. So what else?

Perhaps a more sensible guess would be Modern Warfare 2019 given that Activision and Infinity Ward are releasing Modern Warfare II in late October. Releasing this one free on PS Plus either in September or October would definitely get more people playing and drive some excitement to the sequel. The game is also three years old at this point so there’s no question its sales have dried up.

Also, Black Ops 4—which released in 2018—was added to PS Plus in July of 2021. That’s a similar time-frame. It’s not outside the realm of possibility!

Perhaps a more likely contender for PS Plus this month is the open-world furry-fighting game Biomutant which releases on PS5 and Xbox Series X on September 6th, the same day PS Plus games go out. Two other September 6th releases: Creature-collection MMO TemTem and The Tomorrow Children: Phoenix Edition, the latter of which is coming exclusively to PS5 and PS4.

Then there’s Disney Dreamlight Valley, a life-sim Disney game that enters Early Access on September 6th. This one is headed Xbox Game Pass, so it wouldn’t surprise me to see it on PS Plus Essential as well.

Outside of these, I assume we’ll see some kind of variety with a sim or strategy game. Speaking of which, Train Sim World 3 also releases on the 6th and is also headed to Xbox Game Pass. It fits.

On the wish list front, I wish Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice would grapple-hook its way to PS Plus just so more of you fine people could play it. It’s a wonderful, wonderfully challenging game from the makers of Dark Souls and Elden Ring, though that damn Headless Ape can go suck it.
