‘Married… With Children’ Reboot In The Works

Married… With Children could be coming back with a new look. Deadline reported that the classic 90s comedy is being pitched as an animated revival with the original cast and is being met with interest.

The new version with original cast members including Katey Sagal, Ed O’Neill, Christina Applegate and David Faustino is being pitched to both networks and streaming sites.

Married… with Children aired on Fox
FOXA
from 1987 to 1979 and was one of the iconic series for the network. Revamping the show as an adult animation also fits Fox’s brand which includes adult animation staples such as The Simpsons and Family Guy. The original show was created by Michael G. Moye and the late Ron Leavitt. The reboot is written by Family Guy executive producer Alex Carter who will also serve as showrunner.

The original show followed the Chicago-based Bundy family made up of a misogynist father, a disaffected wife and two children. Talk of a reboot of the iconic show has made the rounds before, but it has not come to fruition most notably in 2014. Busy schedules have usually been cited as the issue in getting a reboot off the ground. The original currently streams on Hulu, Peacock and Paramount Global’s Pluto TV.

It isn’t unheard of to reboot a classic sitcom as an animated property. Norman Lear’s Good Times currently has an animated reboot in the works at Netflix
NFLX
. Adult animation has also been a hot trend in recent years with many channels and most streamers producing their own adult animation originals. Animation has become cheaper to produce over the years. Animated shows also allow for stars’ busy schedules. This makes them good original content for many services to invest in.
