Marcus Rashford Is ‘Unstoppable’ And Can Become One Of The Best Players In The World

Marcus Rashford is in the form of his life. Indeed, the Manchester United forward has scored 10 goals in his last 10 matches and yet this still doesn’t truly illustrate the level at which Rashford is operating at. In his current form, the 25-year-old can become one of the best players in the world. He is realising his full potential.

The turnaround in Rashford’s form is remarkable considering how the 2021/22 season panned out for him. Some even suggested that the 25-year-old’s Manchester United career had fizzled out as he made just 20 PremierPINC
League appearances. His struggle for form and fitness appeared, to many, to be terminal.

Now, though, Rashford has become a force of nature. While Erik Ten Hag’s Manchester United have generally lacked firepower in the final third of the pitch this season, Rashford has been the exception. Alongside Erling Haaland, he has been the most devastating forward in English soccer over the last few months.

“There are more players who are playing really well but I am happy with Marcus, his performance and his development,” Ten Hag said. “From the start of the season he is growing and keeps doing that. We have to keep his process going and if he is in that mood and spirit, I think he is unstoppable.

“It is up to the team to get him in the right positions. In possession we have a plan, [but it is up to some players like] like Rashy, Bruno [Fernandes] and Christian Eriksen to be creative in the final third and do something no one expects, some crazy stuff.”

Deployed mainly off the left wing this season, Rashford has been afforded the freedom to drive at opponents. The 25-year-old has never been more bullish in his attacking intent. This has been clear in some of the goals he has scored – see the forceful dribble-and-finish goals scored against Wolves and Nottingham Forest.

Wout Weghorst’s arrival on loan from Burnley could help get even more out of Rashford in the second half of the season. The Dutchman’s movement is opening up space in the attacking third for Manchester United and Rashford is benefiting. Weghorst is unlikely to score many himself, but his contribution could be evident in Rashford’s tally.

One wonders what Gareth Southgate makes of Rashford’s recent form given how little game time the 25-year-old was afforded at the 2022 World Cup. Rashford scored twice in England’s 3-0 win over Wales, but was given just five minutes off the bench as the Three Lions suffered a quarter-final exit to France.

Paris Saint-Germain have been linked with Rashford as focus turns to discussions over a new contract, but Manchester United will surely do all they can to cling to their best player. The 25-year-old has become the face of Ten Hag’s rebuild of the Old Trafford outfit and there could be even more to come.
