Liverpool Could Face Another Difficult Decision On Mohamed Salah’s Future

Liverpool had a decision to make on two of their legendary front three last summer. Both Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah had just one year left on their respective contracts to run and with the pair 30 or older, the Anfield club were required to make an emotionless decision for the sake of their future as a team.

Ultimately, Mane was sold to Bayern Munich with the money reinvested in the signing of Darwin Nunez from Benfica. Salah, however, was handed a contract extension with the Egyptian handed a weekly wage of £350,000. Nearly 12 months on and Liverpool’s decision regarding Salah has faced scrutiny.

Salah has been a shadow of his former self this season. There have been flashes of his former brilliance, like in the 7-0 demolition of Manchester United when Salah scored twice and contributed two assists, but the 30-year-old has struggled to replicate his astonishing form of the last few years.

Recent reports state Salah could leave Merseyside just one season after putting pen to paper on a new deal. According to one report, the Egyptian is concerned by the dramatic dip in form suffered by Liverpool this term and could consider his future at the club with no shortage of suitors keen on signing him this summer.

Paris Saint-Germain could be in the market for a new attacker with Lionel Messi out of contract at the end of the season and Neymar reportedly open to departing the Parc des Princes. Salah would fit the bill for the French giants who will rebuild this summer to target the Champions League again next season.

Barcelona and Real Madrid have also been mentioned as suitors of Salah in the past with the Egyptian believed to like the idea of playing in Spain. Barca might not have the financial freedom to complete a deal for Salah this summer, but Real Madrid could use a world-class attacker on the right side of their frontline.

There have been signs this season of an understanding forming between Salah, Nunez and Cody Gakpo who joined Liverpool from PSV Eindhoven in the January transfer window. Jurgen Klopp is facing a rebuild of his squad, but he might feel he already has a front three capable of carrying the Reds.

However, Liverpool could be tempted to cash in on a 30-year-old who certainly appears to be at start of a career decline if a suitable offer is made this summer. And Salah, if reports are to be believed, could be open to a new challenge. Both parties might face another difficult decision this summer.
