FTX Should Not be Accused for Wild Parties; Report Cites SBF

Sam Bankman-Fried refused to comment about drugs and alcohol use at FTX, noting there were “ no wild parties” at the company. 

While talking to Andrew Ross Sorkin of the New York Times after resigning from the FTX Chief Executive Officer post, he notes that his “ first sip of alcohol” was on his 21st birthday, and he only had “ half a glass of alcohol a year” after that. 

Sam said, “There were no wild parties here,” he added. “When we had parties, we played board games, and, you know, 20% of people would have three-quarters of a beer each or something like that. And you know, the rest of us would not drink anything.” 

Sam elaborated that he “ didn’t see any illegal drug use” in the workspace and his parties were just “ having people over for dinner.” 

FTX Founder denied using any illegal drugs and admitted that he took prescribed medications, noting he has been prescribed various things at various times to help with focus and concentration.” However, these all are “ totally on-label use of medications.” 

A Twitter post of Sam Bankman Fried of September 16, 2022, notes that he uses: “stimulants when you wake up, sleeping pills if you need them when you sleep.”  

Ross Sorkin stated that all stories about FTX made it seem like “ a bunch of kids who are on Adderall having a Sleepover party,” Sam Bankman acknowledged, “ I screwed up.” 

Fried said he was “ responsible ultimately for doing the right things,” but “we messed up big.” 

A renowned crypto outlet reported that FTX was “run by a gang of kids in Bahamas” who all roommates and have dated each other. An ex-employee of FTX told the news outlet that Sam was living with ten of his close employees/Friends in a penthouse, and they all were in romantic relationships with each other at the same time frame. 

On November 30, 2022, TheCoinRepublic reported that former United States representative Beto O’ Rourke returned a $1 million (USD) cheque to the former CEO of FTX, Sam Bankman-Fried, before the midterm elections. O’Rourke’s campaign informed that the returned donation to Sam before the FTX filed for bankruptcy.

The spokesperson for O’Rourke’s, Chris Evan, stated that “this contribution was unsolicited, and the campaign’s upcoming report will show that it was returned on November 4, before the news stories that would later come out about the donor.”
