FC Barcelona Working With ‘Important Sponsors’ And Have Financial Backers To Fund Lionel Messi Move

FC Barcelona and Lionel Messi are both optimistic about the player’s return to the club, who have backing from sponsors and “very important people” to fund the operation, Gerard Romero has reported.

Romero was at the forefront of news regarding Barca’s activity in the transfer market last summer and appeared on his famous Twitch channel to make revelations about the latest developments regarding Messi on Monday morning in Spain.

Romero reported that Barca have been working with “important sponsors” to finance the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner’s return, which would “open the door to financial markets” that want to see the Argentine don Blaugrana once more.

Romero then added that there are “very important people” in the background that are willing to help the cash-strapped Catalans economically and make the return possible.

Furthermore, both the player and the club, which Messi joined as a 13-year-old and represented for over 20 years before leaving for Paris Saint Germain in 2021, are reportedly optimistic about the a reunion which would be a great coup for current president Joan Laporta.

Laporta has a thorn in his side as for being the leader that allowed the club’s greatest ever player walk on a free transfer to the Parisians despite promising ahead of his 2021 election win that the Argentine would renew his contract at Camp Nou.

This was made impossible when a Barca mired in debts were unable to navigate Financial Fair Play limits, but Messi again becomes a free agent on June 30 when his two-year deal with PSG expires.

Romero recently reported that Messi has agreed to take a pay cut to rejoin Barca, who would not be able to afford the €3.375 million ($3.7 million) he takes home monthly as reported by L’Equipe.

But there may be some accuracy to claims by Romero, who is usually on the money if not that far off, given that Barca president Rafa Yuste confirmed on Friday that the club is in contact with Messi’s camp to see him return.

Simultaneously, however, head coach Xavi Hernandez was reported by El Confidencial as being irritated by public discussion of talks with Messi which could threaten Barca’s short-term stability as his squad close in on the La Liga title and are trying to reach the Copa del Rey final.
