FC Barcelona Close To Signing A New Striker Announced In The Next Few Days

Mired in debts exceeding $1bn, it was a surprise to many that FC Barcelona were able to pull off the signing of Ferran Torres for $62mn from Manchester City in this ongoing transfer window.

Also picking up Daniel Alves on a free, the Blaugrana are not done there yet and still have plans to make new acquisitions before deadline day on January 31.

Previously trying to end his loan prematurely, the Catalans have been won round by Luuk de Jong in his last displays that have brought three goals in three games.

The Norwegian announcing last night after scoring a brace against Freiburg that his club Borussia Dortmund are pressuring him to decide his future before May, Erling Haaland is still a top target for FC Barcelona that could complete Xavi Hernandez’s improving squad if the left and right back positions are also reinforced.

But according to Once, this hasn’t stopped president Joan Laporta and his director of football Mateu Alemany Font attempting to sign another striker.

As of yet, the name of the player has not been revealed. But it is expected that his signing will be announced in the next few days on criteria of knowing his way around La Liga and/or the Spain national team.

This immediately leads to suggestions of Alvaro Morata. Yet with Atletico Madrid playing hardball and demanding high sums, while also not wishing to equip a direct rival with a top player, his arrival at Camp Nou seems unlikely at this moment at time.

Meanwhile there is also the salary cap to navigate. In recent weeks, the exit of Philippe Coutinho and wage reduction of Samuel Umtiti have granted some leg room in this respect, but the Frenchman’s departure would be even more helpful as would those of reserve goalkeeper Neto and out of favor right back Sergino Dest.

Brought in by Ronald Koeman 18 months ago, the US star wishes to stay put in Barcelona and prove his worth but Chelsea could sway his head.

Elsewhere across the squad, the contract renewals of Ousmane Dembele and Sergio Roberto with money spread across different seasons to improve how things look financially in this current campaign would also do a world of good.
