Democratic Senator Van Hollen Says He Was Hospitalized After Suffering Minor Stroke

U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) on Sunday announced that he suffered a minor stroke while giving a speech in western Maryland and was admitted to a hospital over the weekend.

In a statement issued on Twitter, the senator said he was admitted to the George Washington University Hospital in Washington D.C. during the weekend after experiencing lightheadedness and acute neck pain during the speech.

An angiogram found that Van Hollen had experienced a minor stroke in the form of a “small venous tear” in the back of his head but the senator was informed that there was no long-term damage caused by the incident.

Van Hollen said he will remain under medical observation for a few days “out of an abundance of caution.”

He added that he expects to return to work in the Senate later this week.

This is a developing story.
