Valve has officially announced Counter-Strike 2, the long-awaited, much-rumored, and highly-anticipated new entry in the first-person shooter franchise. The sequel to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is slated for a summer 2023 release and will bring a more polished, better-looking gameplay experience with updated maps, guns and a sub-tick update that makes gunplay more precise and fluid, bringing the game up-to-speed with competition like Valorant.
This is “the largest technical leap forward in Counter-Strike’s history” according to Valve’s blog post on the game. Here’s a trailer showing off the map updates:
Another new feature the developer is showing off: Improved smoke grenades.
Valve is running a Counter-Strike 2 Limited Test that you can hop into right now, though not everyone will be allowed in at this time. The game will be free-to-play when it launches in a few months.
