CJ’s Miky Lee And ‘The King’s Affection’ Honored At International Emmys

Actor Song Joong-ki presented the International Emmy Directorate Award to Miky Lee, vice chairwoman, CJ Group, at the 50th International Emmy Awards. Lee (Mie Kyung Lee) is responsible for the overall strategic direction and management of CJ Group’s entertainment and media division.

Song spoke in flawless English, joking that he was nervous and needed a glass of whiskey, but his nerves did not prevent him from delivering a detailed speech. He said he might not be standing there if not for Lee, who he described as a compassionate individual and an essential force in the entertainment industry. He described watching the Oscars on TV while filming Bogota in Columbia. It was the year Parasite won. When the award was announced everyone around him began clapping just because he was Korean. It was an extraordinary experience, one he would not have had, he said, if not for Lee’s contributions to Korea’s entertainment industry.

A short film about Lee covered her varied contributions to Korea’s entertainment world and her dream of sharing her land’s culture and heritage. Without Lee’s support for promising directors and writers, the world not have enjoyed films such as Parasite, Decision to Leave and Broker and TV dramas that include My Mister, Crash Landing on You and Under the Queen’s Umbrella.

On accepting her award, Lee spoke about Song and his dramas Vincenzo and Descendants of the Sun and film Space Sweepers, also mentioning Korean cultural icons Rain and BTS. Lee said she was grateful to be the bridge between many talented people and their dreams and hoped to continue to do so in the future.

Korean media received yet another honor. The King’s Affection, a KBS/NetflixNFLX
drama starring Park Eun-bin and Rowoon, won the Best Telenovela award. It was a first win for a Korean series. Executive producer Yoon Jae-hyuk accepted the award for the series, which focused on a princess pretending to be a prince in Joseon era Korea.

Lee Sun-kyun was nominated for a Best Actor award for his role in Apple TV’s first original Korean drama Dr. Brain. He played a scientist who attempted to communicate with the brains of the dead. Lee Sun-kyun did not win the award, which went to Scottish actor Dougray Scott.

Actor Im Si-wan and actor-singer Rain also attended the ceremony, sharing the table with Miky Lee.

The International Emmy Awards are traditionally held in New York City. More than 1,000 international broadcasting, production and distribution executives convened to celebrate the best in global television.
