Breath Of The Wild’ Sequel Pushed Back Into 2023

Prepare to cry, gamers. The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild sequel has been pushed back into spring of 2023.

The delay was announced in a short video Nintendo put out this morning which you can watch below.

“We previously announced that we were aiming for a 2022 release for this game,” Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma said. “However, we have decided to extend our development time a bit and change the release to spring 2023. For those of you who have been looking forward to release this year, we apologize.”

Clearly Nintendo doesn’t need to apologize for a delay—we want the best game possible and sometimes that means extending the development time—but it’s nice of them to say sorry, though it won’t placate the types of fans who would be angry over this in the first place.

It is a shame, however, given that it’s been over three years since we first heard about the game and now we have to wait another whole year to play it. This will be the first original Zelda to launch exclusively on the Nintendo Switch since the original—which was a launch title—also came out on the Wii U.

Fortunately for Switch gamers, plenty of other 2022 releases remain on the horizon, such as Bayonetta 3, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and lots of Pokémon.
