Brad Garlinghouse at the DC Fintech Week: SEC v Ripple nearing end

The CEO of Ripple, Brad Garlinghouse anticipated that the controversial and stretched Ripple lawsuit would be over in 3-4 months if things move smoothly; otherwise it could take ‘longer.’

Speaking with fellow panelists at the DC Fintech Week Conference, yesterday, Garlinghouse predicted the case would conclude early next year; however, he admitted that it was hard to predict.

The DC Fintech Week is held at Georgetown University. The first edition was held in 2017. The event is aimed at generating information via discussions with industry stakeholders including creators and government officials. The Ripple CEO spoke under the agenda ‘Enterprise Crypto and the Regulatory Perimeter.’

SEC filed a lawsuit against Ripple, its co-founder Christ Larsen and CEO Brad Garlinghouse for selling unregistered securities (XRP token). The case has been dragging ever since Ripple decided to fight back. Recently, details of a speech made by William Hinman, a former SEC official, regarding the non-security status of Ethereum crypto was presented to the court. Hinman gave the speech while at the SEC. The watchdog refused the court order to submit the speech (and any related information) 5 times before yielding. SEC’s compliance is being seen as a victory, albeit a small one, for Ripple.

Hoskinson’s irks XRP army

In the past few days, Charles Hoskinson – the founder of Cardano and CEO of Input Output Hong Kong – has been receiving brick bats from fans and supporters of the XRP token. Later, he blocked several XRP trolls. He even expressed disgust in a video.

“It came as a tremendous surprise the incredible wave of criticism I received for a single comment which was taken out of context.”

“I think I’ve blocked most of the XRP trolls who continue to harass unprovoked. I’ve never seen a group so radically pick up a few words and run with it. Great job turning an ally into someone disgusted and totally checked out.” Hoskinson tweeted.

Hoskinson had called out the ‘Ethgate’ theory as a conspiracy theory. Ethgate theory suggests that the SEC gave an unfair advantage to Ethereum foundation and was targeting Ripple.

The Cardano founder has stated that the SEC filed the lawsuit because Ripple lacked clarity. This upset XRP founders and triggered the trolls.

While the fintech company grapples with a lawsuit and the crypto winter, it has been expanding operations across the globe. Yesterday, Ripple announced a partnership with a French and a Swedish company to facilitate cross border payments, respectively.

France’s Lemonway, a digital payments provider and Sweden’s Xbaht, a money transfer facilitator are its latest partners.
