Biden Had Low Fever But Covid Symptoms Have ‘Improved,’ Doctor Says

Topline

President Joe Biden’s doctor said Friday Biden’s Covid-19 symptoms have improved since he tested positive for the illness, though Biden suffered a low-grade fever, which has since returned to normal, and his voice is “deeper” than usual.

Key Facts

In a letter, Dr. Kevin O’Connor said Biden mounted a 99.4 degree fever Thursday evening, which went down and has remained at normal levels after taking Tylenol.

The president is still suffering from a runny nose, fatigue and occasionally experiences a “loose” cough.

Biden will continue to take antiviral treatment Paxlovid, and has stopped use of medications Eliquis and Crestor—O’Connor said it’s “reasonable” to add a “low dose aspirin as an alternative type of blood thinner.”

The physician said there “has been nothing in the course of his illness thus far” to make him believe Biden will not “respond favorably” to treatment.

Key Background

Biden, 79, has received both doses of the Covid-19 vaccine and both booster shots. The president experienced mild symptoms Thursday and took his meetings virtually from the residence. In a video posted to his Twitter account, Biden thanked supporters for their well wishes and said he’s “doing well.” First Lady Dr. Jill Biden said Thursday she tested negative, and will continue to wear a mask.
