Bayern Munich Agree To Negotiate Lewandowski Sale With FC Barcelona

Bayern Munich have agreed to negotiate the sale of star striker Robert Lewandowski with FC Barcelona.

The Poland captain is the Blaugrana’s top transfer target this summer, but the Bavarians have been adamant that he is not for sale and insist he should ride out his contract which expires in June next year.

Lewandowski has publicly tried to force a move away from the Bundesliga champions which has been met with criticism by club higher-ups and legends such as CEO Oliver Kahn.

According to Sky, however, Bayern have had a change of heart and are now willing to listen to offers from Barca for Lewandowski and negotiate his sale.

Despite having 12 months to run on his curent deal, though, Lewandowski will not come cheap.

The starting price that Bayern want to set off from is a reported €60mn ($63mn) for the 33-year-old they snatched away from domestic rivals Borussia Dortmund in 2013. Over at Mundo Deportivo, they put this at a lesser €50mn ($53mn).

The figure does not consider variables and add-ons either, but regardless of the likely varying stances from the two European giants, final negotiations are expected to start in the next few days.

SPORT say that Barca were always confident Bayern would cave in and agree to sell their second all-time top goalscorer despite their public statements.

The German outfit even sent their sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic to Mallorca to meet the Pole and try and get him to stay one more season.

Yet Lewandowski longs for a change of scenery and is ready to be charged with resurrecting Barca who are currently in one of their darkest periods in history while in debts circling $1.5bn.

Lewandowski has long insisted that Bayern listen to Barca’s offers as Catalonia is his only destination in mind. Yet the price tag set by Bayern will prove a roadblock not only when considering Barca’s financial woes, but also the hard facts of the player’s age and contract duration.

In the coming days, however, cash could be freed up when Barca sell Frenkie de Jong for €80mn ($85mn) plus add-ons to Manchester United, with talks between the two clubs said to be at an advanced stage amid a mutual willingness to get a deal over the line before June 30.
