Americans In China Should Keep 14-Day Supply Of Necessities As Covid Restrictions Expand, U.S. Embassy Says

American citizens in China should keep a 14-day supply of medication, bottled water and food as Covid restrictions and controls expand in the country, the U.S. embassy said in a statement today.

“China authorities have expanded Covid-19 prevention restrictions and control measures as outbreaks occur,” the Embassy said. “These measures may include residential quarantines, mass testing, closures, transportation disruptions, lockdowns, and possible family separation.”

“We encourage all U.S. citizens to keep a 14-day supply of medications, bottled water, and food for yourself and any members of your household,” the statement said.

The number of Covid cases in China topped a daily record of more than 40,000 this week. The country has faced protests against “zero-Covid” control policies in major cities unprecedented in scale since its pro-democracy movement in 1989.

Americans can visit the Department of State’s China Country Information website for the latest regarding travel conditions, the Embassy said. In case of emergency, Americans can reach out to the Embassy by calling +(86)(10) 8531-4000. Information is also available via email:
