Why the Altcoin Boom Is Delayed (And Why That’s Actually Bullish)

Cryptocurrency analyst Simeon Koch has urged investors to stay patient, arguing that the delayed arrival of an altcoin rally is part of a healthy cycle rather than a sign of weakness.

Koch explained that the market is split between two extremes: some expect an imminent altcoin surge, while others believe only Bitcoin and Ethereum will survive. He suggested the reality is more balanced. “Bitcoin’s extended dominance period builds confidence and liquidity, setting the stage for altcoins to benefit later,” he said.

Coinbase Sees Signals for September

A recent Coinbase report predicted that altcoin season could kick off as early as September. The exchange noted that altcoin market capitalization has climbed over 50% in recent weeks while Bitcoin’s dominance slipped from 65% to 59% — a possible early sign of capital rotation.

The report also pointed to trillions of dollars sitting in money market funds that could move into crypto as interest rates fall. Coinbase added that its Global M2 Money Supply index, which often leads Bitcoin’s moves by about 100 days, signals another liquidity wave in late 2025.

History Repeats for Altcoins

Koch highlighted comments from analyst Benjamin Cowen, who has long argued that Bitcoin rallies typically precede altcoin growth. In past bull cycles, altcoins only accelerated after Bitcoin established market confidence. Cowen noted that “a delayed altcoin season usually returns with greater strength.”

From a technical perspective, Koch pointed to an ascending triangle pattern forming across the 125 largest altcoins on monthly charts. In the 2021 cycle, a similar setup preceded a 320% jump in total altcoin capitalization.

The Road Ahead

While timing remains uncertain, analysts suggest that altcoin season is far from canceled — just postponed. If past cycles hold true, Bitcoin’s leadership phase could set the stage for a more powerful altcoin breakout once liquidity broadens across the market.
