With the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. The latter country has so far received massive donations via cryptocurrencies. And now, it has taken a step ahead by launching a dedicated website for donations.
Crypto exchange FTX, staking platform Everstake, and Kuna exchange of Ukraine have all collaborated with the country’s government for this step and aims to facilitate all the folks willing to send donations in support of Ukraine. The final launch of the website happened on Monday.
Ukraine’s Ministry of Digital Transformations announced that the government had launched Aid For Ukraine. It is a platform accepting donations via Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Tether (USDT), Polkadot (DOT), Solana (SOL), Monero (XMR), Dogecoin (DOGE), Neo (NEO) and Icon (ICX) to support the people in the fight for their freedom.
The website signifies that it has already managed to gather $48 million, and the total goal is to receive $200 Million. All the funds would be routed to the National Bank of Ukraine and utilized for ammunition and necessities, further supporting the armed forces. Apart from the asset class, Fiat donations in various currencies are also accepted in Ukraine’s Central bank.
Mykhailo Fedorofve, the Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine, also informed via his Twitter account about the official website where users from across the globe can make crypto donations to Ukraine.
According to Oleksandr Bornyakov, an official from the Digital Ministry, crypto assets have proved to be extremely helpful in providing funding flows to Ukrainian citizens and soldiers and raising awareness, and engaging people globally.
Deputy Minister Alex Bornyakov recently specified the utilization of the formerly received donations for various military supplies via his Twitter. They acquired 5,500 bulletproof vests, 500 ballistic plates for the bulletproof vests, 60 walkie-talkies, 3,427 medicines, 410,000 packed lunches, 500 helmets, and 3,125 thermal imagers and optics, which facilitated the armed forces.
Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, several crypto entities have contributed to Ukraine’s aid, some announcing they would be donating to Ukraine; for instance, Kraken vowed to donate $1000 to each user who created an account in the country before March 9.
There also have been several instances where some crypto entities have blocked the Russian user’s addresses, like UpBit, Gopax etc. Whereas some like Kraken have refused to do so unless asked on a legal basis.
