The price of President Donald Trump’s official meme coin jumped up sharply late on Wednesday night, after an announcement that the token’s top 220 holders will be given a chance to attend an exclusive “gala dinner” where the president will be in attendance, in a move that is likely to raise ethical concerns, as the Trump Organization and its affiliates own 80% of the token’s supply.

The surge came after the token’s official website announced the dinner, calling it the most “EXCLUSIVE INVITATION in the World” and noted that only the 220 $TRUMP holders will receive invites.

The “Black Tie Optional” dinner will take place on May 22 at Trump’s members-only golf club outside Washington, D.C.

What Do We Know About The “special Tour”?
At the time of publishing, the Trump meme coin website did not offer any details about the “special tour” it is promising the token’s top 25 holders. It mentions that the tour “is being arranged by Fight Fight Fight LLC,” the Trump organization affiliate, which owns 80% of the token’s supply. The website also adds that Trump will be appearing at the dinner only as a “guest” and he is “not soliciting any funds for it.” An earlier version of the website, however, promised the top 25 holders a “Special VIP White House Tour,” but that has since been scrubbed from the site. It is unclear if the White House tour has been canceled or if it has simply been left out of the announcement.
How Will The Invitees Will Be Picked?
The token’s website includes an official $TRUMP leaderboard where rankings of the top holders are “updated in real-time.” The page advertising the dinner notes that a person’s average $TRUMP holdings between April 23 and May 12 will be used to determine their spot in the rankings. The top 220 ranked holders on May 12 will be receiving invites.
What About $melania Meme Coin?
The Trump meme coin announcement briefly bumped the price of First Lady Melania Trump’s $MELANIA token announcement by 30%, even though no such rewards were promised for its holders. The token’s price settled at $0.4575 early on Thursday, up 8.5% in the past 24 hours.
