“The year 2025 will be the year of mainstream crypto adoption,” word of Yat Siu.

Yar Siu, co-founder of Animoca Brands, stated that 2025 will be the year when crypto adoption becomes mainstream. The big turning point will come when cryptocurrencies become useful for businesses. 

Mainstream crypto adoption in 2025? The point of view of Yat Siu of Animoca Brands

According to what reported, it seems that Yat Siu of Animoca Brands sees 2025 as the year when crypto adoption will become mainstream.

The co-founder of the gaming giant, based in Hong Kong, emphasized that in this newly started year, the turning point will come as soon as cryptocurrencies become useful for businesses. 

In his reasoning, Siu explained that crypto adoption is a bit like the Internet in the nineties, when it transformed businesses. 

In fact, at that time, Siu explains that without Slack, Dropbox, or FTP, companies still had to rely on the physical shipment of samples to clients for inspection during the production process. A process that was not only slow but also, in some cases, very costly. 

In this regard, even at that time, Siu had offered a broadband Internet-based solution that allowed clothing factories to perform high-resolution scans to send to customers. 

Obviously, initially everything was very difficult, given the bandwidth limitations, but then, when the use of the Internet became mainstream, this solution made the customer review process super fast and economical.  

With this example, Siu shifts the discussion to crypto and states the following:

“If you want to trade with America, it is necessary to have rails for cryptocurrencies. [..] If someone says: ‘I want to send you some Tether or USDC’ and the other party says: ‘I can only accept a bank transfer’, it doesn’t work”

Crypto adoption in 2025: stablecoin, NFT, memecoin, and GameFi

In addition to the companies, Siu also mentions the crypto sectors that already seem to be on the right track to become mainstream in 2025. 

In fact, speaking of stablecoin, Siu confirms that in Asia they have already become common for supply chain finance, to the detriment of bank transfers. 

Other crypto categories then are the memecoin which, according to Siu, are increasingly becoming the “crypto for the community.” In fact, the co-founder of Animoca Brands expects that in 2025, it will increasingly be the memecoin creating their own layer1 or layer2, to give life to real ecosystems. 

“Memecoins are essentially cultural symbols. They are capturing attention and building narratives that resonate with people beyond financial speculation.”

Also for NFT projects, Siu sees a similar trajectory, stating that they are no longer just tokens but create ecosystems of cultural and symbolic value, beyond speculation. 

At the moment, however, the one that is not yet ready is the Web3 gaming sector, which seems not to have achieved the desired success. Siu mentions Ghost Recon, a AAA franchise from Ubisoft that tried to integrate NFTs but received a lukewarm reaction from the market. Even crypto metaverses like Decentraland have not captured the desired player base. 

Despite this, since Animoca Brands is part of this sector, Siu remains optimistic about the future success of GameFi. 

The involvement with Lamborghini NFT

And speaking of Animoca Brands, one cannot fail to mention its involvement in Lamborghini’s NFT project. 

Last November, the well-known luxury car manufacturer launched the mint of its NFT Revuelto, with Transak and Animoca Brands. The idea is to focus on innovative experiences in the digital world, with the NFTs allowing virtual driving of the iconic cars in Web3 games. 

Thus, while Transak is the payment platform that helps the Lamborghini project to facilitate the minting process of its NFTs, on the other hand, Animoca Brands proceeds to incorporate the Revuelto NFTs into a wide range of digital games. 

Among the various, there is Motoverse, the flagship project that aims to create an ecosystem of digital and immersive vehicles.
