Telefónica, a Spain-based telecom company, and Qualcomm, a chip firm, want to build metaverse and XR (extended reality) projects using Snapdragon Spaces. Telefónica also plans to train its staff on how to use XR/metaverse hardware.
Both entities will be using Snapdragon Spaces for their XR/metaverse projects. Snapdragon Spaces is an XR Developer Platform where developers can build extended reality projects.
The agreement between Telefónica and Qualcomm will cover the exploration of various metaverse opportunities. It will also cover the launching of products for the new sector.
Unfortunately, both firms have not revealed much about their upcoming metaverse initiatives. According to Telefónica, the latest partnership will allow the firm to offer new user experiences which will merge the real and digital worlds.
These projects transcend a combination of immersive technologies with decentralized web3 tech and powerful networks. The report added that the project would redefine communication, entertainment, and commerce in the digital space.
Daniel Hernández, Telefónica’s Vice President of Devices & Consumer IoT, said XR could enhance the real and digital world. This will allow individuals to entertain themselves, interact, and do business in new ways.
Telefónica Upskilling Staff and Modifying Its Services
Hernández stated that the company is building the technology and infrastructure for this upcoming digital space. Telefónica is upskilling its workforce, modifying its services, and entering new partnerships.
Furthermore, the VP said the partnership with Qualcomm Technologies and Snapdragon Spaces would allow it to achieve this goal and drive XR/metaverse growth.
Meanwhile, Dino Flore, Qualcomm’s Vice President of Technology, stated that XR could redefine how humans live and interact. Flore added that the company’s latest project is coming at a crucial time in XR’s development.
“We are happy to partner with Telefónica to develop future ecosystems using the Snapdragon Spaces. Our company believes the Snapdragon Spaces can unlock the potential of XR taking it to the next stage,” the VP added.
Furthermore, there have been several announcements recently looking at how to redefine the digital space. However, redefining how humans socialize, work, and live is not an easy task.
Several metaverse initiatives by companies are pushing the idea of a digital world to the next level. Some projects are centered on introducing fashion and digital wear to the metaverse.
Others are building workspaces on the metaverse where workers can interact with customers using digital avatars. However, despite the hype of these firms like Meta, Qualcomm, and Telefónica, they would have to produce something substantial over the coming months.
Besides, the tools necessary for consumers to use the metaverse, such as Virtual Reality goggles, faster internet services, and other gadgets, are still under development. Also, the number of individuals with readily available gadgets is few.
Moreover, a huge part of the world is battling poor internet connections. Therefore, these firms still have a long way to go if they must redefine human interactions using digital technology.
