- SEAL, an elite group of white hat hackers has completed 900 investigations.
- The SEAL team is set to launch “Battle.net” to test the skills of hackers.
An elite group of ethical hackers has formed a “SEAL” team dedicated to aiding defenses in the crypto space. Since its inception in August 2023, the Security Alliance team, led by renowned white hat hacker and Paradigm researcher Samczsun, has completed over 900 hack-related investigations.
The SEAL team’s efforts are driven by the growing sophistication of cyber threats targeting crypto assets. To address these challenges, they are to launch “Battle.net,” a live adversarial environment designed for testing the skills of hackers.
This initiative will be unveiled at the DeFi Security Summit at Devcon, scheduled for November 7 to 9. The summit will be a battleground for white hats and crypto protocols to stress-test under intense conditions.
SEAL Team Tackles Legal Challenges Amid Rising Crypto Hacks
In addition to their technical efforts, the SEAL team is also addressing the legal challenges faced by hackers. Many white hats, who often attempt to rescue stolen funds, could face legal repercussions due to global laws that prohibit unauthorized access to computer systems.
To protect these hackers, SEAL introduced the Whitehat Safe Harbor Agreement, a legal framework offering financial assistance to white hats who may encounter legal issues during their work.
This initiative is supported by the Security Researcher Legal Defense Fund, which provides grants to researchers facing legal challenges. The urgency of the SEAL team’s mission is underscored by the alarming rise in crypto hacks in 2024.
By February 29, 2024, over $200 million had been lost to hacks, a 15% spike compared to 2023. Experts warn that if the current trend continues, the total number of attacks could surpass those recorded last year. As 80% of cryptocurrencies never recover their value after the hack. So the work of ethical hackers like the SEAL team is crucial for protecting the future of digital assets.
