Nifty Gateway announced a collaboration with Samsung to create the world’s first smart TV NFT platform. Samsung’s intuitive platform is integrated into the renowned NFT marketplace, allowing customers to explore, preview, purchase, and exhibit digital art.
The First Smart TV NFT Platform
While many startups are developing custom displays for NFTs, Samsung is taking a different approach by incorporating NFT capabilities into its smart TV sets, possibly bringing NFT collecting to a far broader audience.
On Wednesday, the tech firm unveiled the NFT industry partner that would bring its smart TV interface to life. It’s Nifty Gateway, the Ethereum-focused marketplace launched in 2018 by brothers Griffin and Duncan Cock Foster and bought in 2019 by cryptocurrency exchange Gemini.
Nifty Gateway collaborated with Samsung to create a TV-optimized NFT viewing, purchasing, and trading experience. By utilizing the custodial wallet system of Nifty Gateway, customers are freed from the hassle of keeping their collectibles in an external wallet. Users can also use a credit or debit card or crypto to buy NFTs.
According to Nifty Gateway co-founder Duncan Cock Foster: “Nifty Gateway’s mission is to bring NFTs to a billion people by empowering creators and simplifying the way customers buy, sell, create, and hold NFTs. We are committed to making NFTs accessible and NFT purchasing more seamless than ever before.”
“With our mission in mind, we couldn’t be more excited to partner with Samsung to develop a groundbreaking NFT collecting experience. Their dedication to user experience and focus on the highest quality displays aligns perfectly with our vision to allow anyone, anywhere, to interact with their favorite creators.”
Devices That Glorify NFTs
In addition to Samsung’s QLED and Neo QLED premium TV lines, the Nifty Gateway NFT platform will also be available to owners of Samsung’s The Frame and Micro LED sets, which may be accessed by downloading a Nifty Gateway app.
At the CES trade exhibition in January, Samsung announced plans to incorporate NFT technology into its new televisions.
Artwork from Nifty’s own curated collections, such as works by well-known artists like Beeple, Pak, and XCOPY, as well as NFTs accumulated from other marketplaces, will be available for viewing by Nifty Gateway users. As of last fall, the site began offering a larger range of NFT collectibles to users outside of its own curated drops.
The platform has already supported NFT trade volumes worth hundreds of millions of dollars, reaching $300 million in May 2021 and hosting some notable declines since then.
Samsung Continues to Expand Its Crypto Solutions
Samsung has continued to venture into blockchain and cryptocurrency services, bringing much support to the growing industry. On May 13, Samsung stated that it had integrated support for Ledger Wallet on its Samsung Blockchain Wallet. It allowed Samsung Galaxy users to import cryptocurrencies saved on Ledger’s hardware cryptocurrency wallets, the Ledger Nano S and Ledger Nano X.
According to Samsung, this provided customers with an excellent experience managing crypto assets in a single location. Samsung has a close bond with Ledger, having invested $2.6 million in the French cryptocurrency wallet startup in 2019. It was also incredible news for Ledger, which has been fighting to regain the faith of the crypto community since a data breach in 2020.
