Recent Survey Reveals One In Five Americans Has Used Crypto Currencies In Some Fashion

56% Of The Participants Are Neutral Towards

Last year witnessed a great boost in cryptocurrencies. It can be confirmed from the fact that the crypto economy is currently valued at around $2.2 trillion, at the time of writing. 

The poll conducted by NBC News shows that one in five American citizens have used digital currencies in one way or another. It is also interesting to note that their popularity among men was huge.

The statistics revealed that 50% of men aged between 18 and 49 confirmed to have either traded or invested in crypto assets.

The results further suggest that crypto assets are becoming more and more mainstream as 21% of the 1,000 surveyed individuals have dipped their toes in the crypto industry. 

There were varying views regarding cryptocurrencies and the industry among surveyed individuals, 56% of the participants said they are not sure how they feel about the emerging ecosystem or are simply neutral. 

While 19% of participants feel positive about crypto assets while 25% see crypto in a negative light. Around 1,000 adults from March 18 to March 22 were surveyed as part of the poll. A “margin of error of plus-or-minus 3.1 percentage points” was also added.

96% of Americans failed to comprehend basic knowledge about cryptocurrencies

It is not the first time that such a poll was conducted. Over the years, many polls tried to quantify the number of Americans who have heard of or own some sort of digital assets. For example, Survey Monkey and Global Blockchain Business Council conducted a survey with 5,761 American adults, four years ago. 

The result of the poll showed that 21% of the surveyed individuals were “considering adding it to their portfolios” in 2018 while 5% held crypto assets. The Survey Monkey in 2018, similar to the NBC News poll, again highlighted the majority of male participants by 58%.

Meanwhile, Nordvpn published a report that showed that the firm surveyed 1,000 individuals in mid-February. The results showed that 68% of Americans are aware of the risks involved in digital assets. 32% of the surveyed individuals did not know about the risks, while 69% of surveyed individuals “had some understanding of what cryptocurrency is.”

Another survey conducted at the end of November 2021 published by cryptoliteracy.org suggested that the understanding of basic concepts of crypto fundamentals is still low in 2021. The result of the survey conducted on people from different countries revealed that 96% of Americans failed to comprehend basic knowledge about cryptocurrencies.
