PostFinance, a first Swiss state-owned bank, launches crypto staking, offering Ethereum rewards and plans to expand to more cryptocurrencies.
PostFinance, a Swiss state-owned bank, has introduced a new crypto service for its customers. On January 16, 2025, the bank announced that it would now offer crypto staking. The service is an extension of its current crypto trading and custody solutions. This new service lets Customers earn their passive income by staking their cryptocurrencies.
Staking involves customers locking up their crypto assets to help secure and maintain a blockchain. In return, they will get regular rewards. PostFinance has started staking with Ethereum (ETH) for now. However, the bank plans to expand its offering of cryptocurrencies in the future. It follows PostFinance’s crypto trading and custody service, launched in February 2024. The formation of this service was made possible by collaboration with a regulated digital asset bank, Sygnum.
This makes PostFinance the first systemically important bank in Switzerland to offer crypto staking. As a result, the crypto market has a significant player. The new staking service will be supplied via the PostFinance app and e-finance channel. The installation allows users to deposit as little as 0.1 ETH which is just enough to get most users into the system.
PostFinance Enhances Crypto Staking with Native Ethereum Integration
Security is one of the main benefits of the staking service. PostFinance does native staking, which just means it happens on the Ethereum blockchain. This allows the users to know exactly what they will be getting and is safe. Head of Digital Assets at PostFinance, Dr. Alexander Thoma, noted that staking rewards will appear as crypto assets alongside the rest on customers’ statements. This integration makes it simpler for customers to track their rewards.
It is a simple and secure staking service. This allows crypto investors to earn passive income that does not require the management of complex processes. PostFinance is planning to include more cryptocurrencies in the staking service. This will provide customers with more choices.
Lastly, the new crypto staking service by PostFinance is a big step for the bank. The incorporation of digital assets in traditional banking confirms the bank’s interest in integrating them into its traditional banking. As the service expands, PostFinance wants to create more ways for customers to capitalize on the crypto market.
