Kvetny&Velasco to Use Tezos for “CryptoPong Participate” NFT Art Installation – crypto.news

Danish artist group Kvetny&Velasco has chosen the energy-efficient Tezos (XTZ) blockchain for its new interactive art installation dubbed CryptoPong Participate 2022. The team says the art installation is a tribute to the 50th anniversary of Pong, one of the world’s oldest computer games.

Tezos (XTZ), an energy-efficient proof-of-stake (PoS) blockchain network has been adopted by the Kvetny&Velasco artist group for its “CryptoPong Participate 2022” interactive art installation and exhibition at Nikolaj Kunsthal (DK).

According to the team, the CryptoPong Participate installation is a tribute to the 50th anniversary of Pong, one of the earliest computer games. For many, the Pong game symbolizes the beginning of the digital age, and its significance is well reflected in the CryptoPong Participate installation.

The team says the CryptoPong Participate 2022 explores a new aspect of consumerism and digital behavior – transparency of transactions, NFT collectibles, gamification, and how people relate to a new reality that merges the physical and virtual worlds with verified digital assets.

For the exhibition, the Kvetny&Velasco artist group plans to mint 50 unique CryptoPong Participate NFTs from the installation on the Tezos blockchain. The NFTs will be transferred to attendees who will physically find the same artwork on a ping-pong ball during the art installation event in Nikolaj Kunsthal.

The team explained:

“Each NFT has a unique artwork by the Danish artist Ida Kvetny. The participant can then choose to keep a physical or virtual version of the artwork. If the person chooses to receive an NFT they deliver the ping-pong ball to the exhibition venue and get further instructions. The artists behind the installation, Radar Contemporary, or Nikolaj Kunsthal cannot be held responsible for anything related to the blockchain or technical aspects of the NFT.”

They further hinted that the CryptoPong Participate installation will also depict some of the film installations of the 1960s, with a focus on behavior and consumption. Some of the works to be featured include Valie Export’s iconic work, Ping Pong from 1968, and Agnes Varda’s work PingPong, Tong, e Camping from 2006.

Importantly, all interested participants can witness the CryptoPong Participate installation at Nikolaj Kunsthal’s Upper Gallery from September 16, 2022, to January 22, 2023.

After the successful conclusion of the exhibition, the team says it plans to donate the remaining NFTs and ping-pong balls to the artist-driven Museum of Nordic Digital art- MoNDA.

The team further stated:

“The goal is to have multiple CryptoPong Participate matches, while also ensuring that the installation will be exhibited at art venues in different countries. The CryptoPong Participate installation is part of a larger exhibition (also named CryptoPong) about art on the blockchain curated by Radar Contemporary.”

Since its launch in June 2018, the Tezos (XTZ) blockchain has enjoyed a significant level of adoption across various actors, thanks to its energy efficiency, cost-efficient transactions, and speed. At the time of writing, XTZ, the native crypto of the Tezos ecosystem is trading at around $1.51.
