Keanu Reeves’ Optimist Views on Crypto and Its Innovations

Popular Canadian actor Keanu Reeves shared his thoughts and vision regarding the innovations—both in development and upcoming. In a recent interview with Wired, while promoting his new movie John Wick 4, he talked about cryptocurrencies, NFTs, metaverse, artificial intelligence (AI), and many more.

Given the opinions of Reeves for cryptocurrencies and NFTs, many inferred him as being attracted to the burgeoning asset class industry. When asked about cryptocurrencies, he finds the ideas and principles of an independent currency amazing. He said that cryptocurrencies could be amazing tools for facilitating services like “exchanges and distribution of resources.” Almost giving a solution for the concerns of trust and volatility with the digital assets, Reeves said it will get better considering “how it’s safeguarded.”

Keanu Reeves is a well-known actor, and his work in movies like The Matrix and John Wick are notable. His opinion over the metaverse and artificial intelligence-like innovations becomes crucial given his movie franchise The Matrix. The movie has highlighted the notion of a virtual world and artificial intelligence, those innovations were way ahead of time and are now taking shape after twenty years down the road from its release.

Since both concepts belong to Web3, the community often remains excited to listen to influential people who already know them.

AI and NFTs Making Impact

Personally, Reeves is fond of technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and the way they are impacting many traditional activities. Citing the instances of music creation with the help of AI, he noted that “people are growing up with these tools: We’re listening to music already that’s made by AI in the style of Nirvana, there’s NFT digital art.” It is intriguing to him, “what the cute machines can make!” The control of such innovations by the corporations is what concerns him, though.

As far as the non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are concerned, he is an adviser with The Futureverse Foundation, a digital art charity known for funding aspiring NFT artists. Reeves said during the interview that he helped to “set up the launch” as he tried to bring the technology to interested people and also “give opportunities to artists.”

In an earlier interview during the promotion of his previous movie in 2021, The Matrix Resurrections, he countered the argument of NFTs being treated as “easily produced.”

However, Reeves still has concerns and some skepticism about the metaverse and illicit use of AI, such as for deep fakes, etc. He finds the metaverse sensory and considers it a “system of control and manipulation.” For AI-generated deep fakes, he showcased his concerns while sharing an instance of his performance change in 1990 after tearing off his face using the tech he was unaware of. This made him put a clause in his contracts about the prohibition of performance manipulation.
