A Coinbase spokesperson has clarified that Kamala Harris is not taking crypto donations directly, but PAC is. The spokesperson was referring to Coinbase Chief Financial Officer Alesia Haas’ statement on Harris accepting crypto donations and denied them.
Coinbase Chief Financial Officer Alesia Haas said at a Citigroup event yesterday that Harris is “using Coinbase Commerce now to accept crypto for her campaign.” However, a Coinbase spokesperson corrected the claim and said that Haas was referring to the Future Forward USA PAC, not her campaign.
The spokesperson reportedly stated “Coinbase can confirm that the Future Forward PAC has onboarded with Coinbase Commerce to accept crypto donations.”
At present, Harris’ campaign website does support options to donate in crypto.
Future Forward is a hybrid PAC, and was first used for President Joe Biden. It can contribute directly to the campaign or pay for independent advertising that’s not coordinated with Harris’ camp, but is still a supportive source for Harris.
Republicans have failed to provide a clear view on cryptos, however, Democrat Representatives have always found ways to bring up their pro crypto stance and belief in Bitcoin. US Senator from Wyoming, had recently called for a Bitcoin Reserve and laid out the plan to invest in Bitcoin and storing in for 20 years till they reach their potential to save US from its $35 Trillion debt. She also added it would be fun to have a Bitcoin arms race between US, China, Russia instead of weapons.
