Into The Brains Of A Crypto Artist

A couple of years back, no one would have thought that anyone could make it as a crypto artist. But now, Emily Yang, aka Pplpleasr, has not just proved this wrong, but has proved that it can make an artist affluent and famous too.

Alongside Beeple, who sold his Everydays: The First 5000 Days NFT for $69 Million with Christi’s, Pplpleasr has become a prominent name in crypto art sector. Her bright, whimsical art has appeared on Fortune’s cover and has created a high demand.

Emily Yang recently talked about her route to become an NFT artist in a podcast, and where this inspiration comes from, a notion she calls “Idea Sex.”

She describes ‘Idea Sex’ as just talking to folks. Talking to new people gives birth to new ideas. Isn’t that some next level of intimacy?

The Path Of NFT Success

Emily was not always a crypto artist. Back in 2020, she accepted what seems like a dream job to be a virtual artist at Apple, only to witness that opportunity fade away with a pandemic.

Soon after that, she confronted the world of crypto Twitter, Decentralized Finance, and NFTs and immediately became drawn in — specifically to its unusual power and quirky meme culture.

Pplpleasr came into limelight after making an animated advertisement for Uniswap; an NFT of that ad was bagged by collectors for over half a million dollars. For her, the margin between marketing and culture, art and fluid — much as they were for pop artists such as Andy Warhol.

As fitting with her artist moniker — which Pplpleasr came up with on a whim for her channel on Instagram. She admits that the crypto sector has its share of dark sides, that she herself broods on somber themes, but states that now she stays concentrated on making the sort of affirmative art which have defined her brands.

This involves her creations which laud decentralization, which is allowed by the blockchain and acts as a prime value for several crypto communities who are witnessing to develop new kinds of economic liberty and governance.

Flash In The Pan

Pplpleasr is swift to advise casual cryptocurrency fans not to get into art world or join a DAO in search of fast money, but to instead lean into the culture initially.

She said, look at DAOs as subreddits, or like video games and clans. Folks will be joining something because they are in accordance with the vision of everyone else, and they think of it as something cool, and they enjoy talking to folks in that community.
