Hong Kong’s Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) is considering allowing retail investors to purchase spot crypto ETFs, according to the regulator’s CEO, Julia Leung. The authority has taken a progressive approach to cryptocurrencies throughout the year, with the move potentially opening up access to digital assets for a broader range of investors. In January, the SFC tightened investment restrictions, limiting the buying of crypto spot ETFs to professional investors with portfolios of at least $1 million. However, in October, it expanded investor access, subject to a knowledge test and net worth requirements below the professional threshold.
